A new book on small business laced with humor, pathos

This is a real time lesson on buying and managing a small business during tough economic times by a Wall Street trained stockbroker turned boatyard owner in pursuit of one simple goalfreedom.

Why would a successful stockbroker shuck a lucrative career to enter the scary world of small business by buying and running a boat yard in Southern California?

Find out by reading How to Fail in Business, while trying really hard.

Andy began writing “How to Fail” in 2009 when the economy started getting worse. He wrote the book to create a real time record of what is involved with managing a small business during tough economic times.

"From a mahogany paneled office in a climate controlled modern office tower, Andy Killion hangs up his cushy Morgan Stanley stockbroker position to chase his lifelong dream of owning his own business. Join Andy on his journey of personal growth and learn countless insights from a Wall Street-trained small business owner struggling to survive in the toughest economy in generations."

How to Fail in Business while trying really hard eBook Andy Killion

Great book with uncommon candor from a man in the thick of a really tough economic cycle. Killion makes easy to understand, practical points and backs it up with real world experience. His 'out there on a limb' account is enlightening and at times heart rendering and is a recommended read for anyone thinking about going into business for themselves, and for those that are in business, it will no doubt give them solace in the fact that they are not alone. The book should also be given to bankers and the lenders that purport to want to help small business and maybe, just maybe, one or two might think a little differently when dealing with their local small business owner trying to make a living for himself, his family, and his employees.

The big take away I got from the book is optimism - after all he has gone through and continues to deal with everyday, he is focused on the now and the future, pretty cool. Buy the book and after you read it, give it to your local banker.

How to Fail in Business while trying really hard eBook Andy Killion Reviews

This author really opened up about everything he did and his trials and tribulations, his successes and his plethora of failures which is ok because he has learned from them and has built a better business practice because of them. I am in the automotive business and I constantly enforce upon my salespeople to use his "customer first" "red carpet" "earn their repeat business" practices all the time. Great book I would recommend not just to small or large business owners but all managers in any field as well.
It doesn't get any more real than this. Andy documented and shared the real life experience of a small business owner. I've know Andy since he purchase the Ventura location and while in California always used his yard and services. No mater what was going on behind the scenes the customer was always number one. I sympathize and share the pain with him in regard to the effort required to own and operate a small business. For many years I to was a small business owner in the harbor and know the time, energy and sacrifices it takes to even keep afloat at time. Hats off to Andy!! P.S. Sorry Andy, I didn't get the joke-)
